Description:
Cancer bush is a hardy, drought-tolerant shrub that grows up to 3 feet tall. It has grey-green leaves and produces bright red or orange pea-like flowers, followed by bladder-like seed pods. The plant is known for its medicinal properties and has been used in traditional African medicine for centuries.

Uses:
Medicinal: Cancer bush is traditionally used to treat a variety of ailments, including cancer, viral infections, inflammation, and stress. It is believed to have immune-boosting and adaptogenic properties.
Ornamental: The attractive flowers and seed pods make cancer bush a popular choice for ornamental gardens in suitable climates.

Growing Conditions:
Climate: Cancer bush prefers a warm, arid climate.
Soil: Well-drained, sandy or loamy soil with a pH of 6.0 to 7.5. It thrives in poor, well-drained soil.
Sunlight: Full sun is ideal for cancer bush. It needs at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
Watering: Regular watering is needed during the establishment phase. Once established, it is highly drought-tolerant and requires minimal watering.

Maintenance:
Fertilization: Cancer bush generally does not require fertilization. An occasional application of compost can support growth.
Pruning: Prune lightly to shape the plant and remove any dead or damaged branches. Pruning after flowering can encourage bushier growth.
Pests and Diseases: Cancer bush is relatively pest-resistant but can occasionally be affected by aphids and fungal diseases. Ensure good air circulation and avoid overhead watering to prevent disease.

Harvesting:
Timing: Harvest leaves and stems as needed throughout the growing season.
Method: Use sharp scissors or pruning shears to cut stems just above a leaf node. Harvesting should be done in the morning after the dew has dried.
Preservation: Leaves and stems can be used fresh or dried for later use. To dry, spread them out in a well-ventilated, shaded area until completely dry. Store dried parts in airtight containers away from direct sunlight.
