Tarragon, Russian

Botanical Name
Artemesia dracunculoides

Russian Tarragon is a perennial herb which is dormant in winter and is rather sensitive to cold and damp. It is also heavy feeder. It enjoys full sun and good soil. Tarragon reaches a height of 60cm.  Tarragon is a strongly aniseed flavoured herb. It is delicious with chicken and in vinegars as a salad dressin. The French tarragon is far preferable to the Russian, although the flavour of the Russian improves with the age of the plant. It is an antibacterial herb and a good companion plant to strawberries.
