Calendula is a winter annual which grows to about 50cm in height. It prefers well-drained soil and full sun. It is a hardy plant and does not enjoy the heat. The bright orange petals are used to colour food and is also used in creams and oils as an antiseptic. It is good for skin condition such as acne and eczema and in some cases skin cancer. It is a good detoxifying herb and the petals can be used to make a tea. It is also used to dye wool and textiles.
