Also known as Cape aloes, socotrine, medicine plant, burn plant
A drought-resistant succulent, Aloe Vera is a fleshy plant that can grow up to 60cm. It is long and pointed and edged with teeth. It hosts tall flowers with spikes of yellow, orange or red tubular blooms. Aloe Vera is also known as the burn plant. Its gel-like sap can be used externally to treat wounds, burns and mastitis. It is ill-advised to take this plant internally on a regular basis as it can promote haemorrhaging. Aloe vera thrives in arid, sunny conditions. It may be cultivated from seed in the spring or propagated from offsets from the parent plant or motherstock.
