Shallots are what one might call the "posh onion". This vegetable, which is a member of the onion family, has a delicious flavour. It is an essential ingredient of french cuisine. Shallots often have a copper red or grey skin and inside they resemble garlic with their clove-like segements. Shallots are biennial and enjoy good soil and full sun. They reach a height of 60cm and have delicate, white flowers.
