The Herbs

dandi

"Until man duplicates a blade of grass, nature can laugh at his so-called scientific knowledge. Remedies from chemicals will never stand in favour compared with the products of nature, the living cell of the plant, the final result of the rays of the sun, the mother of all life." - T. A. Edison

Herbs and herbal remedies have been used for centuries and its not difficult to understand why. These wonderful plants have an array of medicinal and culinary uses. Both traditionally and commercially herbs are, and have been, greatly sought after. One of the most exciting aspects of growing and using your herbs is their medicinal qualities. People are often so surprised when they discover how easy and effective it is to treat minor ailments themselves.

A word to the wise when using herbs

Always take an uncertain diagnosis or an ailment that does not respond to home treatment, after a day or two, to a health practitioner.

Take care that you buy your herb plants from a reputable nursery, so that you are sure that you have bought the correct plant.

Remember that herbs have strong chemical constituents and that they should be treated with respect. Herbal  dosages are usually small and side effects should not be experienced. Keep herbal medicine out of reach of uninformed people.

With these few cautions in mind, remember that herbs are basically safe and that you can use them effectively and successfully.

If you are uncertain about identifying a herb in your garden or about using a particular herb please do not hesitate to contact us.
